Consumptive behavior impacts most teenagers. Many teenagers are affected by advertising, media and teen magazines that exploit a luxurious lifestyle, resulting teenagers always want to consume products that can improve their lifestyle and gain social recognition from their peers. This happens due irrational thoughts for teenagers who do not want to be underestimated by others. So that teenagers always want to be different from other people who brings dissatisfied emotion with themselves and raised consumptive behavior by buying goods in excess which is not in accordance with their needs. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of Group Counseling Cognitive Behavior for reducing the consumptive behavior of senior high school students.

This research uses pretest and posttestcontrol group experimental design. Subjects were given intervention is six students grade XII of SMAN 1 Kuta Utara of 2015/2016 academic year which have a high degree of consumptive behavior based on the measurement of consumptive behavior scale. Consumptive behavior scale has a total value of validity with the R value above 0.3 and reliability 0.868 which means that the instrument can provide reliable measurement results and fit for use as a data collection tool.

Data were analyzed using nonparametric statistical test Two Independent Sample Mann Whitney U Test. Based on the analysis, it can be concluded that Cognitive Behavior Group Counseling effective for reducing the consumptive behavior of high school students. The analysis showed that the sixth counselee of experimental group experienced a decrease level of consumptive behavior is more significant than the control group.

Based on the results of this study can be submitted suggestions for counselors, that Cognitive Behavior Group Counseling can be implemented by school counselors to reduce consumptive behavior forsenior high school students, and can utilize the results of research by studying the implementation guidelines for Group Counseling Cognitive Behavior that has been tested and for the further researchers can use similar studies with a larger number of subjects or school samples, in order to obtain more stable results and generalizations.
