In essence, the purpose of learning Indonesian in schools is to develop oral and written language skills. The language skills referred to are: (1) listening skills or (listening); (2) speaking skills (speaking); (3) reading skills (reading); (4) writing skills (writing). Learning to write is one of the language skills that are productive, writing requires mastery of basic materials, starting from mastery of vocabulary, diction, sentence preparation, paragraph formation, mastery of spelling, and punctuation.
One form of writing is writing personal experiences in narrative form. This was deliberately chosen in this study because writing personal experiences is a real experience that can be written as clearly as possible to the reader about the events or experiences experienced. However, the reality shows that students' personal experience writing skills have not reached the Minimum Ability Standard (SKM), which is 70.This can be seen from the average value of the personal experience writing skills of the fifth grade students of SD Negeri Kauman 03 Malang, which shows that only 17 students achieved complete learning with good success rate of 40 students.
In this study, to overcome this problem, a learning community model was used (learning community) to improve the personal experience writing skills of fifth grade students of SD Negeri Kauman 03 Malang which is focused on the problem (1) how to improve the learning process of the personal experience writing skills of the fifth grade students of SD Negeri Kauman 03 Malang through a learning community model (learning community) and (2) how to improve the results of the personal experience of the fifth grade students of SD Negeri Kauman 03 Malang through a learning community model (learning community).
This study used a classroom action approach design focused on 40 students through two cycles related to basic competence in writing personal experiences by paying attention to word choice and spelling usage through the pre-writing, writing and post-writing stages. Each cycle conducted two meetings with a time allocation of 2 × 35 minutes (4 lesson hours).
Based on the results of the research data analysis, it is known that the learning process is through a learning community model (learning community) can improve teacher skills in carrying out the teaching and learning process and the overall results achieved by students or groups researched in learning to write personal experiences show an increase by exceeding the minimum ability standard (SKM), namely 70 so that the learning community model (learning community) can be applied in all subjects as an alternative to innovative and creative learning models.
Based on the research results, it is suggested that this model can be used as an effective solution for teachers and institutions as an alternative learning model, for students to overcome difficulties in writing essays and improve student achievement, besides that it can be used as a reference for further research.
